Project Overview:
JFA were commissioned by Curtin University in 2013 to design a new office fitout in an existing Building on the Bentley Campus.
The project was designed to accommodate the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Unit which was, until this project was completed, housed in run-down rented offices in Fremantle.
This project was undertaken as a pilot project to incorporate Curtin University’s newly created Guidelines for Office fitouts. The primary objective of the design was to create contemporary, open plan, flexible office space designed to cater for the specific needs of research and teaching academics as well as non-academic staff.
The area of the building to be refurbished was originally a Geography Laboratory and may old maps and aerial photos were left on site for disposal. JFA retained a lot of these maps and photos and incorporated them onto the design as shown on the cover page of this submission.
This project had an extremely tight timeframe but was successfully completed late 2013.
Successful completion of the project has now embedded the guidelines for office planning at Curtin University and this project is used as a model for similar future projects on the campus. The success of this project has also led to JFA being commissioned by the University to completely refurbish an existing four level teaching and office building on the Bentley campus (Building 501) which is currently nearing completion.
